On November 14, 1960, three six-year-old girls — Leona Tate, Gail Etienne, and Tessie Prevost — became the first Black students to integrate McDonogh 19 Elementary in New Orleans.
Escorted by U.S. Marshals, they faced violent resistance, school boycotts, and isolation.
While Ruby Bridges became a national symbol, the story of the McDonogh Three remains less known.
